Oscar Night

The 83rd annual Academy Awards took place last night in Hollywood. I always really enjoy the pomp and ceremony, not to mention the gowns. Unfortunately I missed the first two hours, but I saw the most important part: costume design, makeup, and the technical categories.

My favourite part was the Bob Hope tribute, with black & white footage of the glitzy RKO Pantages theater in the background. (The Academy really outdid themselves with the stage sets this year.) That segment brought a little vintage glamour back to the Oscars. It also prompted me to search old photos of the Oscars in the 50's, when it was first televised. These two are my favourite finds.

Grace Kelly at the 1955 ceremony after winning Best Actress for "The Country Girl." This photo is so perfect-- the pose, light, everything! The word is "glamorous."
