Vintage Ballerinas

I've had antique dancer photographs piling up for some time. I can't resist them. They're so haunting, for some reason I can't put my finger on. Perhaps because there's something timeless about the elegance of ballet. The images are ghostly in a way; dance is a thing of motion and life, but these lovely dancers are long dead, frozen in time on film, their vitality only a memory. I took four years of ballet lessons when I was younger- I still have a pair of purple pointe shoes- and while I got over wanting to be a ballerina when I grew up, I still find it compelling.

Enjoy this collection of my personal favourites. Most are from the 20's. Not only are the images beautiful, but the colours as well. I think it no coincidence that most of my favourite colours are tints frequently found in vintage photography.

Click "read more" to see them all, and as always, you can click the pictures to see them larger.

I particularly adore the costumes in this last photo. They're so frothy, luscious and sparkly. Pure eye candy!
